I can see it going wrong: either he fails to ascend or someone interfere. Ultimately khan senses will help him. Khan will sense the attempt to impede the colonel or khan will sense him about to fail and will intervene with his shaman abilities

It’s always been shown that khan is a bit irrational and very emotional concerning the Nak. This is on par for his character. This isn’t surprising as well due to how he said that he isn’ going to essentially hide himself anymore. All the self control that he has shown before will likely be much less going forward
