Sorry I won’t be able to update until this weekend, I worked over the Easter holidays and am sadly sick now with the flu and running a high temperature (occupational hazard I’m afraid). I tried writing for a while just now but wasn’t getting very far and have decided to just take the time to rest and recover. Very good question! I guess it also depends on when the myth of dragon energy started to perpetuate (who decided to use it to start flattering their emperor lol)? The Shang king and Su Daji are from a really old era but the story about her being a fox, at least the records of it, are a lot younger (still old tho lol) I think. 🤔

Back in the past, they used to cover the name portion with a piece of parchment attached with rice glue (or at least they did in some dynasties...). Examiners weren't supposed to remove the parchment until all the papers were graded but unfortunately, I'm sure some people thought themselves above those rules and found ways and means to get around it...
