I think the single most accurate portraly of Mylene is in the story The Poor Baron's Route by Surayo on fanfic.net. He definitely does a better job of showing her complexity, while I have a much harder time with complex characters.

In the first few volumes of the novel, she's portrayed as the kind milf because all scenes with her involve either her struggle with paperwork, or flirting with Leon. we never truly see her acting as a queen, but as soon as volume 9 rolls around, we see how she is all to happy to let the frontier nobility die against the anti-holfort alliance. she intentionally refuses to help them in order to weaken them, while constantly remaining warey of Leon, the man she loves. To call her a cold calculator would not be an understatement.
