Your writing quality has definitely improved over the chapters and is much better, keep it up! Please make sure the oc is included in the main story, so he has his own moments.

Maybe not the can’t handle not be near each other but when separated, thoughts would come into their heads like “what is Frieren/Mc doing right now?” Or “he/she would have loved this” stuff like that then they realise that they’re oddly thinking about that person more so than they normally would of any other.

Will you be doing the land of waves arc next or perhaps skipping to the chunins? Or the next arc will be some slice of life with more missions and whatnot.
I can confidently say, we've got 2 chapters left for this arc.
