I think this is an issue with how you view Gloriana. She is fanaticism personified and a reminder to the depth it can influence ones perspective. The way her personality interacts with her faith give the readers more insight into what to expect from Ves's work as they gain the power to harness faith (like gaia) and how he will gain further power through others faith in the metal scroll. Gloriana isn't just Ves's wife she is our insight into deep concepts within the story
