I want my fights to be tense. That you never know if Alex will make it or fail. Although Alex can lose, he is still a very strong trainer, with his system and tactics. He would probably have won if he had bet with zubat's well-being. Alex lost that fight mostly because Zubat is a very weak Pokemon if it doesn't evolve.
