Yes. The System only give Yonpachi the knowledge to help him easily learn the marial art. But the experience of using said martial art can only be achieved through how much effort he put on his training or in real battle. Even if his proficiency over one's marial art reached Grandmaster class, but if he doesnt put any effort to train and master the said martial art, he's not truly a Grandmaster but more of a fraud then.

Proficiency over Martial Art could only be increased if Yonpachi beat someone with the same Martial Art as a reward. And for training under someone's guidance won't increase its proficiency, at least on the paper, but physically it would still increase them because of his body will remember and create a muscle memory for him to do better in that martial art even though his progress over said martial art won't showing in the System's interface.
