the advantage of mechs over combat bot is that it's possible to hack combat bot, but it's impossible to hack a mech. It is possible to mess on a mech on the construction or repair, as Ves once did on the neural interface. But once a mech is on the field eletronic warfare can't hack a mech, only blind it's sensors and comunication chanels.

The skull architect saw that Ves design philosophy has a way of relying on external sources to empower his mechs, he could also acheive great effects just using his DP alone, but they'd be more subtle and take longer to appear as the mech grows.
