I'm not seeing how clearing out the weaker floors makes it easier for the guy since he already could teleport to the fifth floor. Unless the defenses need to be calibrated to the intruder and can not be recalibrated, the lower floors were promised to be somewhat difficult even to the lich formerly known as Doevm.

Perhaps the author meant to use tendrils instead of tentacles- the latter is more commonly associated with an appendage while the former generally denotes a string-like shape.
