At first, it was just small things like packs of candy, but as she became more and more courageous, she began stealing whole premade subs and sandwiches. Of course, she was caught many times and even had her food stolen by others, but she continued on. For almost ten years, she survived by stealing, running away, and hiding. Doing what she could to survive. Some days she went without eating for three or four days. Her only saving grace was the water fountains in the park and the public restrooms. She basically lived out of one of the restrooms near a police station. She had some wits about her to not go anywhere that could spell danger. This mainly came from her easily frightened nature. Power was normally cut in the bathrooms in the park at a certain time, and without any lights, Kana would think she would get eaten by a ghost if she stayed in one. And because of a book she had once found in the trash that told horror stories about ghosts, one of the said stories was about a girl named Hanako.
