Someone can distrupt your casting simply by depriving you of air, a sip of helium and suddenly all your castings are dangerously off-key for a short bit. A silencing spell or some way to block your mouth will do it as well. Heck loud noise or very strong winds could neutralizer your attempts to cast and you still need a wand? No thanks.

Spending points to increase a powers grade seems a waste beyond base acquisition or in an emergency like when she started in the asylum. she can train them on enemies and even gains more points and other rewards for doing so. Save them for customizations!

I don't mind that the dagger can harm the hydra skin, more wondering how a small dagger manages to saw its way through a thick neck? Daggers are for stabbing after all, not slashing ^_^; that was my main reason for not thinking dagger was a good starting weapon. No big deal though.

Yes, daggers are possibly the worst option because you know nothing of the meta of the game, but logically speaking they should lock you into a point blank combat style of making many rapid stabs. which means everyone, monster and humanoid, will have an easy reach advantage. Even rogues in most rpg games go at least for short swords, scimitar or similar weapons.
