Is Gandalf making him forget? I mean he only remembers the itch when it’s just about to happen or has just happened. Since 5th evolution he wanted ask Gandalf but he never did. His got a lot of opportunities to ask Sarah but he never does. That can’t just be plothole, right?

His resolution to stay independent ironically denies the independence of the Colony. Maybe the soul nave/crystal shares Anthony’s eccentricness to the entire colony and is the one thing that makes the colony different from all the other machinations of the Dungeon.
For this reason, the Eldest must be preserved at all costs. The Colony requires them in order to achieve our fullest potential. No matter what need be done, they cannot be allowed to fall.
