it's also a translation quirk; in Chinese the word for "over" or "more than" follows the number, and the translator forgot to rephrase it in English.
For those who want a reincarnation story which doesn't focus on revenge but rather on living one's best life when given a second chance, this is a good choice! More than one character is reborn which leads to the relativey early shift in circumstances, and the story proceeds apace with a stong slice of life vibe. Still hits many of the tropes in the genre, but it's one of only a few stories where there are real efforts and development of communication within the romance. Overall chill and enjoyable. My only real gripe is that there is a weird twist in the last hundred chapters which honestly almost made me stop reading because of irritation with the main character's obliviousness and apparent disregard for feelings of those she cares for and their judgment. Concluded well nonetheless, but I did downgrade my rating specifically because the final chunk of the book felt like a bit of a slog.
Glad to have that slightly uncomfortable storyline end well, but I do wish that the author hadn't had the last lines of the book focusing on Gu Peng but rather on Chuxia and her life with Qin Yang.
Honestly it's annoying how unwilling she is to question Gu Peng and her understanding of him; she already realized how flawed her judgment of other people was in her past life, so it shouldn't be that hard to rethink whether or not she really understood Gu Peng!
I am not fluent, but she is explaining which characters form her name since there are many ways to write Ni Yan in Chinese. (The translation often uses Yang, but the character here is Yan.) The Yan used for her personal name is a reference to a line from a famous Tang Dynasty poem which says something like "The sun shines in Lantian, and the jade smokes."
Seems odd they didn't explain the reality to her about it being temperature related. surely that shouldn't be kept secret from her.
Read this during a day of free reading and am extremely glad I did--the art is nicely done and improves throughout the story. Note: it is NOT complete as a full story; the first season of the manga was completed and translated, but it's unclear whether there's a second season or whether it was simply not translated into English. The story is interesting, and there's a good job done thus far with the fact that the main character Qinglan is stuck pretending to be her brother as she seeks to build power and work towards revenge. I'm going to dig up the novel now in original Mandarin, which is noted as complete with 1667 chapters but apparently got stuck in the trial read here on Webnovel.
This is one of the best modern history rebirth stories I've read and definitely worth a read. Yu Bing and Xiao Sheng's relationship is very slow burn but is one of the most realistic ones that I've seen in a Webnovel story. They share genuine respect while clearly having individual personalities and goals. The story setting in the 70s in the countryside in China during the late years of the Cultural Revolution and before economic opening provides a fascinating and unusual setting for the story for this genre, if somewhat whitewashed in terms of politicization. The side characters and relationships are largely believable, although Yu Yan as an enemy is almost unbelievably petty on many occasions. Best of all, this story has a clear path and wraps up nicely at only (!) 520 chapters, making it extremely readable compared to most of the behemoths on Webnovel. Good option for a few evenings of chill reading.
If you enjoy the rebirth, hidden identity, building-a-business empire story with a supernatural power plotline, this is an excellent example of this chill reading genre. I have completed the entire story and it gets nearly five stars as an overall very enjoyable story. While the main character and love interest are both overpowered, there is a good cast of characters in the form of likeable family members and friends, a slow burn romance, and rivals or villains with more nuance and reasonable motivation for their behaviors than most similar stories. Heartily recommend as a fun light reading novel with completed English translation.
The premise for his fake death was always a bit ridiculous, but at this point his family is already implicated, so what is the point of not telling them?!
