I think it makes sense. Basically, it’s that it’ll be harder to level up with higher stats, so if you keep them low until you need them, your overall strength will be higher. He wouldn’t get anything from sparring his friends if he could already beat his dad.

There are some times where the wrong word is used, but it’s typically easy to figure out what was intended. The story is very interesting, but has some weird flow at times. It’s still great, and the characters seem to be realistic.

This chapter probably would have felt a bit smoother if it was in the third person, but it’s still a good one for worldbuilding.
