Youre right, plot did them dirty and they should have slaughtered them, but having a vampire that’s 700 years old vs a 300 year old vampire with the power of a 500 year old vampire, isn’t a good example of good fighting ability, I suggested Damon because he actually killed supernaturals stronger than him with tactics and strategy like a real fighter
A vampire with fighting knowledge was deadly. An example was an ancient vampire known as Shen Min, who fought Hayley, an Hybrid, and Marcel, an almost three centuries old vampire, effortlessly and almost killed them if not for Elijah stopping him.
