This was definitely a bad spot for the story, but aside maybe from the very angry dude, all the complaints on this chapter are completely valid and far from moronic. You yourself said it could've been done better, as we all think. The author may not be moronic, but with all honesty, this whole chapter has proved that anyone, no matter what, can write moronic stuff. The MC's nonchalant attitude shouldn't have been a problem, but he went against common sense that all the people here see, and against the parameters the author himself set for the character and the universe. So in conclusion, I went on a rant but it makes sense... kinda.
