Yeah, you can definitely feel his real personality leaking through more as the story goes on. I definitely think the whole dynamic of him putting on a persona makes the moments when he actually shows his real self more impactful. I suppose the main issue I had was how flimsy the reasoning felt. Like, it's keep on being repeated how common and easy possession is, but there's no specific example of how others possess people exactly? And for that matter, how in the world does the MC realize possession is even a common thing anyway? If possession is such a widely occurring thing, why does it not occur constantly with nobility? Idk for such an important thing it just felt kinda glossed over

This novel had a bit of a rocky start if I'm being honest, but I can feel it really starting to hit its stride now. This chapter in particular was written really well. I would honestly prefer it if Julien stopped having to put on this stupid act, especially since the whole "emotions affect mages on a deep level" would be a really good excuse. I feel like it sort of limits character interactions when it's not really geniune.

Most of the 5 star reviews most likely didn't read past the first 80-90 chapters so be warned before you believe them. This novel was good emphasis on the was. It very quickly becomes a hot pile of mish mashed garbage where the author tries to find some semblance of plot to drive the story. This becomes painfully obvious once the main character leaves the island, but the authors strength relies on building an engaging system progression rather than having interesting characters, and plot.

By far one of, if not the best novel I have hands down ever read. I've been reading webnovels for around 4 to 5 years, so seeing someone put actual thought into themes is a breath of fresh air. What really sets this novel apart for me is it's emphasis on strong characters. There's no carboard cutout 2d villians that are evil for the sake of being evil. It's more people having clashing ideologies, to the point that the main character sides with people who he originally though of as evil due to his character growth. The whole "power comes with consequences" theme that is portrayed through flaws in other aspects is super compelling, and I think it would be great to put more emphasis on it, maybe with Sunny later discovering shadows have flaws too, and being forced to exploit them in order to avoid doom. Idk I'm not nearly as good at writing as Guiltythree.

Literally the only reason I got back into reading webnovels. Yes, it is that good. .............................................................................
