Multiple stories intertwined with one reminds me of the movie Trick R’ Treat. This is a good novel for the idea and the stories. If you are reading this novel, you will most likely like it.

No, that’s not possible, there are multiple death notes and more than one shinigami (god of death) obtains one. If he had a death note, he is still a mortal. We just need to see which shinigami’s death note he got.
