1. Are you seriously ignoring the fact that this is the medieval age where fighting, using magic, and the ability to read and write are something valuable whereas in our era, almost everyone is knowledgeable, so obviously going back in time as a chemist with a master degree would make him a genius. As you said, why didn't his past life be successful? Well everyone is smart, as the time you wrote(2018) the comment aswell as the time i write this reply, 2021, almost everyone is knowledgeable about something, so obviously he ain't gonna be successful, now take him back in time to an era where humanity thrive for survival, where a family only care about their children, an era where people conceive children so their lineage could be passed down. 2. Are you kidding me? This is literally the medieval era where parents hit their children and it's not considered children abuse, who in the world would invent a so call "children protection service" in an era where people thrive for survival. As for Derek remembering what his father did to him is on the author's, it would probably make a good scene, I agree but there's one flaw in your statement, our boy Lith(Derek) is only a 4 years old here or maybe 3, and he stated many, many times in the past chapter that by doing something like that as a child would only make him "standout", like at 1 or 2, he said he can't ask specific or sentence questions, it would only make him "too special", the only thing he can ask was, why? What? And so on; that logic also applies here aswell, why would lith go and try to stop Raaz from disciplining their child(Orpal), and now imagine you, yourself as a boy with a brother and sister, your brother insult your sister to go and die, what would you feel? Your father is disciplining(either physical or verbally) your brother, ofcourse you wouldn't do anything. 3. You are forgetting something here, when Rena and Orpal were born, there were only 2 of them, and the family may or may not have enough food for the 4 them to eat, then came Trion, Tista, and lith, of course the availability of the food would obviously decrease. Oh and if you're gonna say, if it going to decrease, why didn't the parents just stop conceiving children then? Well first off, the family is farming family, and if you haven't noticed, an agricultural family conceive more children so those children could grow up to help with the field work. 4. Why? Well simple, because Trion and Orpal treat lith like a leech, and Tista and Rena treat lith like a family, a happy family, so obviously he would have chosen Rena and Tista; as for the parents, well Raaz and Elena shower their children with love and affection, so obviously lith would also choose with them.
