hmmm. So this is my guess. The cadets that are described as black lumps and those that are corrupted aren't dead but are still alive and are being used as an energy(?) source and if they kill this demon before they die the cadets will be alive? Because I don't think Leon will describe only the main cast surviving as having "save everyone".
