Its because they are friends. in this world hierarchy rules. power sets hierarchy. the weak serve the strong or get damaged. peter resisted as long as he could but his mind broke. pain is a powrrful motivator. in peters own way he is trying to do the right thing. eventually his friends eill see the sufferning and defend him. ar least thats my thoughts
