It was a little bit of a reference. At the time of writing my sister was obsessed with this show and I couldn't really escape it.
Well, piloting takes a fair amount of work to do even if you aren't really moving, so he really just limits his intake. The ice cream is just a lil treat.
This is more a reference to CV-6, USS Enterprise, the actual ship the startrek Enterprises are named after
Mercedes is being kept out of trouble on the Noah, can't have her peeing on somebody's floor. She's still alive! She just can't do much to help considering the fact that she's, you know, a dog. In spite of that, she is trying her darndest to keep Donovan and Diana happy and healthy (in the form of her morning walkies)
I have plans for something like this, but the Sanctum is a lot different than other powers. In essence, they are extremely bureaucratic in relation to just about everywhere else (save one) to the point that the expenses from producing and maintaining such crystals are simply untenable. This is sort of background that I wanted to introduce later, but Sanctum script was proactively introduced by the first holder of the 'Librarian' title as a means to record what little history they could and archive it. Once we get to the actual academy you will start to see something similar.
I went over this earlier with the Scholar, but they DO have a system of writing, its just that only a fraction of people working for the Sanctum have learned it (and those from the Holifanian Theocracy). I have plans for the 'everybody else' version of recordings, but you are right that they are incredibly expensive.
Quality of writing is high, word choice and use of grammar are well above the standard. The story itself is also very compelling, though due to its brevity actually going over it in the review would defeat the purpose of reading the book. I see this book as a level above others on the sight, though I do wish it was a bit longer.
Heyo- author here. This work is almost exclusively the love-child of my free time in college and boredom in said time. Do not expect the best writing quality, stability of updates, or consistency of character goals (story has a general direction I plan to take it). In return, I expect to be derided heavily for errors, called out on gross inconsistencies, and dragged through (not over) the coals when I make grievous errors. Constructive criticism would be nice, but not by any means necessary. In essence, this novel is the culmination of the ravings and fantasies of a colossal idiot in written form. I can only hope you enjoy.
