Only concern is pikes in mountains terrain tends to be folly. I would recommend a flexible infantry unit, that can support and envelop any opposition. Hammer and anvil, but I suppose that’s what the Hussars are for so you choice tbh

Personally I think there should be a time skip as character development only goes so far being so young. You could do a short summery on what he does during the time gone. Don’t know end of the day it’s your story do what your comfortable with
