The spell seems partial to the gods. hmm. pretty much told Sunny that he tainted and cursed his beautiful lineage when he discovered shadow dance and now is quite smug that the God's blood was consumed by blood weave thus not allowing sunny to attain his lineage. Seems the gods aren't completely dead yet. The spell might have been the gods last ditch effort to stay relevant in the war, and Sunny has inadvertently chosen a side.

True. And like you said, he thinks everyone's sus. So there are characters who are sketchy but you can understand their sketchiness like Neph, then there's Caster who's personality was pretty much foreshadowed by Hero in the very beginning.
