It's alluded to that time does flow differently in the Otherworld with the mention of other people returning from there unchanged. However, that's not really a fact realized by her until this moment. Aribelle's knowledge of magic is pretty much limited to what was written in the original novel and tales (sometimes tall) that she's heard in her interactions with other people, so she doesn't necessarily draw her own conclusions on these matters.
