i don't understand why they fear her learning ki, saying it's more dangerous to have it than not. It seems to me no matter if you have it or not you will eventually interact with the supernatural side if you try to become a pillar of order or justice. wouldn't it just add more self defence capabilities and stop her from suffering. just seems slightly forced with that background with her all of a sudden being a child to a powerful family and seemingly one with enough influence to know about different users of supernatural powers but not when a hit was placed on her.
