Chapter 34 spoilers: The old man who threw the cane at the end of chapter 33 is Yun Su’s teacher, the one who in the previous timeline committed suicide after the Cang Empire successfully invaded the capital. He opposes the relationship because he thinks Xiahou Chuan is an idiot and isn’t good enough (and funnily enough mentions that he has over a dozen relatives aged between 8-28 that’s better suited, XD). The old man wants Chuan to kneel before him, which Chuan at first refuses, saying he wouldn’t even if his legs were broken. To both their surprise, Yun Su kneels first and at first Chuan argues it’s unnecessary but then subsequently joins him (like the good hubby he is). Yun Su is still feeling incredibly guilty about causing his teacher’s suicide and tells him he has failed to live up to teacher’s expectations.
