the aura shield is passive but it can run out or if there's an attack the shield can't protect against the shield will break.
As for Aura, she had managed to master it to the point that it was now making a passive shield/cloak around her, like most people do in RWBY. She hadn't managed to imbue it into her weapons just yet, but she was certain that she could do it, if given enough time. - Shizuha11mthCommented
