i like this one, is more organic with the story since is just 1 year. Besides it gives them time to train more. They can travel to Magia Dragon before (that way the don't mess with the story, like you said) or stay in Fairy tail for a couple or years. There's no need to travel to the future immedeately

He saved Cana's mother because of Cana, Gildarts and because he felt like doing it. He doesn't personally know of Layla or Lucy, maybe he doesn't even remember? Layla is kinda bland in the story. And again it's MC's life, whether he save someone or not, it's up to him, he doesn't own Layla anything
