She can’t use higher abilities. She doesn’t have the mutant cells for it.

Someone needs to sit her down and tell her that everything she and her pacifist faction is trying to settle down with is directly due to Ves and his “questionable” decisions. Nice to see Maxs optimization actually be able to be used for something specially for it. Nicos ability, while not as specific, usually seems much better. At least, that’s the impression I’ve gotten every time it gets brought up.

But Max can optimize them, so as soon as I bring them online, he should be able to tweak the positioning using this control panel here and make them functional." The inside of a fighter jet was ridiculously, childishly simple compared to a Mecha cockpit, and with his targeting skills, Max aced the exam without ever having to drop his speed. Nico also aced the exam, but almost failed on a technicality. Her body wasn't bothered by gravity the way an organic human was, so she wasn't limiting her maneuvering forces as much and almost destroyed the test plane while banking. - karaglen11yrCommented
Nico will pilot, Max will control weapons. They are custom built for this setup.
That revealed the secondary purpose of the Lasers. They could intercept artillery shells, exploding most of them in the air before they could do any damage to the Kepler forces below.
