this is where I would think of using car batteries. cars normally have charging ports and the batteries themselves aren't used for much other than ignition and the electrical parts of the car so hijack a few from other vehicles, get some cables and you'd be fine I think...
There was no charger in the car to charge the phone should it enter the red zone, so Malachi figured turning it off when it was not needed and turning it back on when it was needed was better than letting it passively run down.
