You're missing the part where she's not Riftan and she does care, a lot. I'm not sure if we all witnessed her go through the same abuse to be “perfect”, but pushing that aside she's a noblewoman as well. They usually see things like that as indecent and something to be judged. Of course knights are different and I'm sure they wouldn’t truly give a hoot, but that’s not really the point. Snu is about both parties being comfortable. It isn't always about Riftan and if they can do it at a better time that'll ease Maxi's anxiety why not do that? I can see how she’d be embarrassed.

I'm not sure about these comments. I would NOT be okay having snu with my husband whilst people are nearby. I'd have a heart attack. It's not about "no one caring", it's about wanting the knowledge that my husband's 🍆 is deep within my nest to be kept secret (between me and husband) and not to be known by the entire army. It's just shameless in my opinion and something you won't die from if you wait at an appropriate time. Aka when it's simply just you two. Maxi isn’t shameless enough to be able to do something like that and just brush it off as “husband and wife”. Just think about the harmless teasing she'd get and how that'd affect her. Word would get around so quick. Everyone talking about it, I wouldn't be able to show my face in that camp ever again. Knights are always trying to find new gossip. They wouldn't care and the gossip wouldn't last long, but in Maxi's eyes the fact they still found out would make her incredibly bashful.
