If the inheritor was capable of that, why wouldn't the inheritor kill all the snakes to begin with? Why would he or she go way down to the end of the valley, so far out of the way, inherit the stuff and then build up power and kill the snake king? That sequence of events is unlikely for all but protagonist-style inheritors. It's way more likely that the snake king would've already moved on or died by the time the inheritance was uncovered.
