sorry not sorry being belated, ended up getting a job, but rebuttal: it wouldn't have the same effect. readers and viewers will go "thats's messed up" or "meh could a been worse" the violation of literal Innocents is a sledgehammer that works perfectly. now if it was excessively used in the Nasuverse then yeah I can see it being some sick perversion but we dont't REALLY see that outside of Sakura's story. look at say Goblin Slayer. they Didn't NEED to show the grape first episode but it did well to shock and awe and most importantly drive home that it's a cruel world. passively mentioning "people are hurt" children are dying in the world" etc. doesn't hit as hard as seeing it or a depiction. as people instinctively look away from a dead animal as it clashes with their own hopes and idealism. Seeing forces people to face it and either come to terms with genuine evil. the little hassles in life becomes just that hassles when compared to the atrocities. it may not be intended, but it does a good job and separating the silly little immature brats that look at a car accident through a cellphone screen and those who could be more who and assist, wether direct or indirect. anger and revulsion are perfect reactions. now it's a question of what you do moving forward. will you go that's just sick and the author is a pervert, no different from claiming God or whatever higher power if you believe in it is at fault (as both will have you with a response of : they have a plan) for letting such evil happen. or face the facts and delve deep into understanding how such cruelty can happen, culture, habit, history, psychology etc. and discover for yourself and grow as a human being. or shrug your shoulders and acknowledge its value as a plot device and move on. because thats's what in this case it is.
