yes the brain can lock parts of itself away. I experienced physical and emotional trauma at a young age and to this day I can't get past the block. As for sleeping when I sleep I don't reach rem (rapid eye movement) sleep. so I wasn't resting like I was supposed too. I have to take a sleeping pill to get to that restful stage of sleep. hope this helps.
