Okay, so there is no trust. In fact he questions his own ability.... as a consequence, he is questioning her and their child. This book is boring, history has proven that characters like these two will continue to bicker and doubt each other for their entire lifetime, or for hundreds of chapters, before realising the damage/harm they have inflicted on each other. Initially story had some pace but now everything to too damn predictable and slow.
