It was a pity that neither Blinky nor his Blinkyverse were good at causing material harm. Ves needed to rely on other forms of protection in order to defend himself against physical threats. - _0v0_9mthCommented

I think that his problem with these aliens is more personal. They've abducted him and his family, and he always reacted quite violently when someone acted against him in an "improper" way.

well, in the paragraph it says that he told the rest (not the mech pilots), to ready themselves. That should encompass the scientist in the field and the ships in general, which is quite important in case of a battle.

at this point I have to ask the question if the Star Emperor is baseline human enough to procreate in a normal fashion, or if he's traveling with a whole crew of doctors giving out Designerbabys... when even second raters are most of the time designer babys, I can't imagine the leading figures of a superstate to be normal humans

didn't one of his apprentices specialise in ai in connection with living mechs? The drones would be a good fit for that idea (in my opinion)
