I personally find it annoying how Beth is being protrayed as a 2D character. She has a lot of admirable traits (eg being assertive, bold, knowing what she wants and needs, being outspoken, standing up for her family and herself, etc). So she wants to marry a rich guy and have a title- so what? Only the meek are worthy of good fortune? I think not. Women didnt have a lot of say in their lives. They often couldnt own property and often only had wealth through marriage or an inheritance. Considering that most women couldnt or didnt work it makes sense that she would want a wealthy husband. Also, everyone who has a sibling at some point has been jealous of them. Maddie claiming she hasnt is total BS. Sorry not sorry.

Both Maddie and James are victims of the games of vampires
James couldn't help but think about the words that Lady Rosamund said to him. He wished the King would not marry Madeline. James wished Mr. Barnes wasn't threatening his father or him so that he would get married to Lady Catherine. He had accompanied Lady Catherine on the night of Hallow solely so that he could see Madeline and James was glad he had done it that day. But right now he wished he hadn't gone with Lady Catherine at all. If things were different, maybe it would have been him and Madeline getting married. When Elizabeth had turned twelve years old, she had started to receive attention from everyone because of the contrasting colour of her dark brown hair and green eyes. She loved every bit of the attention. The attention that she received had been taken away from her, by her very own sister. The shame she felt, the embarrassment was all because of Madeline.
