What I loved about the this book is the world building. It's very descriptive and detailed and written in a way that won't bore the readers. The readers aren't given a bunch of info dump. Talking about the character, Cagnus, a very catchy name by the way is a guy coming from a very humble background. We know his relationship with his grandfather was pretty close and his gramps taught him all he needed to know bout chess. I sympathize with him because how he fell victim to the harsh class system in the Fide Empire (Reminds me of the dark ages) How he is treated less than a dog for being a peasant. character wise, he is not out of the ordinary, he responds to his ordeals like any normal guy his age would which makes him all the more relatable. I won't giving away too many spoilers, but I assure you there are more characters which are quite interesting. Like the Knight (Although kinda hated him at first), Lady Seraphine, or the mysterious prince in row A. Chapter 4 gave me anxiety, because I was already rooting for Cagnus. If you wanna know why, read the book, you will want to know more about this amazing world created by the author! Keep it up author! Waiting for more chaps.
