I think there's so many things that cause things like this. Stupidity is certainly one. Hate and fear of the unknown. A sense of inferiority that is lessened by bullying those weaker. The refusal or willful ignorance of your own wrongdoing. The ease of letting someone dictate your life especially when he tells you you were right making it even easier to stay ignorant. And I'm sure there's many other things but that's all I could really think of for now. I also find it a curious question to ask, how much do you blame the children vs their parents and when can you stop blaming parents for a person's decisions and when do you give up on being able to change them
