I dont know whether it is right or not, but I have always thought that the Egyptian bird was a fire bird, and the chinese bird is a Phoenix, but from what I found, the Phoenix didn’t always have a turtle back, most common thing I found was peacock tail feather type traits and a very feathery or scaled body, maybe the scaled body can be described as a turtle back, but I dont think it fits very well.

First part, yeah that’s fair. As for the reward part, he didn’t actually need to give them a reward, they would have already received glory and prestige through battle and he could just given them his sincere gratitude, the reward didn’t need to be in some sort of material wealth, heck he could’ve just arranged a marriage for the future through a promise if they had a set of offspring that matched well.(the marriage bond thing would’ve solved everything because the ‘Imperial’ family would no longer need to fear the ‘Jun’ family)
