Your idea is correct. Meijing uses her own charm and sociality to influence the people around her, keeping everyone away from Haotian. She only let the girls necessary for Haotian's spirit as they are necessary to Haotian to become stronger and fulfill her dream of always being together. However, she tries to limit the relationship between the girls and Haotian, always putting herself as the number one. That's why the one that she hates the most is Chenxiang now who is not under her control and tries to take her position on Haotian's heart. All of it hiding from Haotian as she doesn't want to be hated by him. Of course that yenderism would explode later on becoming a conflict in the future but that would be spoilers.

I'm planning for 9 or 10 at most. It won't be a gotta catch them all and every girl would have their own story behind and development (at least I will try it) each volume mostly focusing on one of them
