The difference in altitude between the ground and the tree wouldn't make a difference in temp. But being exposed to the wind up in the tree would make it colder. Also, snow is a good insulator as well. So you're right that it would be colder up in a tree, but for the wrong reason 😀

Nah, they were first to level 25, and then after killing the vampire servants, they leveled up twice to 27. The game does have weird balancing, tho if 2 level 27s were suddenly much stronger than the boss monster when they have been struggling the whole time to get to this point.
