So you're either SAO or an enemy, or neutral, which opens up the question, if you can be neutral, why are you automatically assumed an enemy.

it's a misstranslation. I'm going to guess it was originally written as staying his hand. It's a saying where you pause an action before fully completing it. What it means is the instructor will fight him but not go for a win, meaning he doesn't actually aim to strike a point but just pressure him.

yeah, as a rule, when you can comfortably double more than 1 of your stats and not use all your points, you're saving up too much. literally any situation where he has a "hard time" or "needs to level up" is basically just artificially created by himself at this point. I could see you saving 10 or even 20 points, considering he gets 10 free points per level but 100 at level 20?!
