I don't think it would be a problem if the ground of the tent got wet because if there is no carpet then, unlike with modern tents, the ground is just normal ground.

I think the caterpillar comparison is used more to describe his love for sleep and tiredness and his laziness in moving (like he sleeps in the library instead of a bed because he is too tired to move). He also likes to wrap himself in a blanket like a caterpillar, like when he sleeps or when he is cold and I don't think there will be much developing happening for him, because he is already one of the best magicians on the continent. And I can't see Ruth being compared to a butterfly š.
