I did too while writing it. All the emotions. Alex is closer to my own personality than Kanae. So this book is definitely just me and all the transes out there.

She was always attracted to women. People that go through transition rarely have a 180 on sexuality. It is however fairly common for a person that prefers only one gender to become bi/pan after transition.

Although a fractured soul is actually relatively rare, even Mariel is not fully aware so it might never come up, but the reason reckoners are resistant to becoming berserker is that they all have fractured souls. In a sense each aspect of their soul stops them from falling. I think I might write some chapter zero stuff explaining the world in a lot more depth after I finish the fist "book" than will ever come up in the books, simply because there isn't always a good place for exposition.
