have you ever heard of blue blood aka noble blood? In the past it was a mark of wealth when your skin was so pale you could see the veins. dark skin refers to heavily tanned, which is a sign of having to work outside all day to survive and therefore being poor. it has nothing to do with poc, it just relates to status.
