if it wasn't for their advanced medical technology they would have 2 casualties already.in military terms a casualty is anything that puts a soldier out of combat. in WW2 the British took away the metal helmets they were giving their soldiers due to their casualty rate skyrocketing when they were distributed. they neglected the fact that deaths had plummeted. the metal helmets were protecting the soldiers from red hot artillery shrapnel hitting them in the head from above when they took cover.
