Most of the members of the council were people similar to Luke, and wanted to forget their past to move onto a better and brighter future. Furthermore, seeing as Luke was at the threshold of reaching grand mage, the council were more inclined towards supporting a rising star like Luke, whose growth speed was just too fast. Normally, grand mages were haggard old men nearing the end of their lifespans.
