That is true, over time he would accumulate wealth with hard work but then again. He needs the backing to hold onto that wealth. It is kind of like if a rich person who had more backing than him found out he had immortality that person would go through great lengths to "own" him. So that wealth that he accumulated would mean nothing.

the problem is that in a cultivator world savings doesn't mean anything if someone who is stronger than you finds out that you are immortal and you don't have the power to hold onto it.
